HOLY BATSHIT--DC Does Something Else Stupid

Yeah you're not going blind, nor has anybody put acid in your toothpaste, this has been making the rounds as the cover for Brightest Day #13, which would make perfect sense. Why would it make perfect sense, well let me tell you. The first part is that DC has fucked up not only the death of Bruce Wayne but also his Return. Mostly they've done this by handing it to hack "writer" and Alan Moore wanna-be Grant Morrison.

On top of all that Brightest Day so far has been so fucking ho-hum that I use it as opposed to jerking off in order to feel relaxed before a nice hot shower. So since DC has basically not just screwed the pooch but got her pregnant, beat her and made her pay for the abortion, why not fuck it with returning Bruce Wayne as the White Lantern. The Dark Knight as the White Lantern, holy raping get down fuckabout DC are some deep bitches.

What If They Gave Avengers...And Nobody Cared?

The Secret Avengers were finally revealed this week and...well...to be honest, who cares? The reason I say this is that the new team Beast, Nova, Valkyrie, Moon Knight, War Machine, and Steve Rogers could be the most lackluster superhero team since The Champions (remember them? Marvel team with Hercules, Ghost Rider, Iceman, Black Widow and Angel).

I mean seriously, Beast? Nobody even cared about him as an X-Men, especially in recent years. Nova? Yeah, talk about your second stringers. Valkyrie? Who? Moon Knight is cool but how many times has Marvel fucked that story up. War Machine I like and I dig Steve Rogers but I'm bummed he's not part of the new relaunch title (they're sticking with Bucky). Collectively The Secret Avengers just lays there, nothing sparks when you see them, even when it's leaping into action. Here, check the cover.

B.P.R.D. KING OF FEAR Preview

With issue #4 of B.P.R.D.: King of Fear hitting stands in a few short days, details have been released saying that Liz Sherman will be given a most fucked up vision about the end of the world while Abe Sapien discovers his role in it by finding the link between himself and the frog monsters.

As King of Fear nears its end, more fucked up shit will happen to the heroes in the B.P.R.D. with the final two issues of the series acting as the final chapter of the Scorched Earth trilogy that began in 2008 with B.P.R.D.: The Warning and the end of the Plague of Frogs, which began clear back in 1994 with Hellboy: Seed of Destruction! It's funny, as time goes on I've become a much bigger fan of BPRD than Hellboy alone.

BRIGHTEST DAY IMAGES GIVE ME HOPE

I loved me some Blackest Night and while issue #8 wasn't as awesome as I wanted it to be, the entire story is too brilliant to really fuck about with. I'm not as sure about Brightest Day simply because the last time DC did a weekly (or in this case bi-weekly) comic, the oft loathed Countdown, it sucked giant asshole. I'm down to give Brightest Day a shot for two reasons, one is that I roll deep with anything involving Aquaman and two I trust writer Geoff Johns won't fuck it up. DC release some images today dealing with Brightest Day and they do make it all seem very cool. I dig the idea that there are reasons behind these resurrections and I like the idea of the Lanterns battling for the White Lantern. Check out the images for yourself.

COMIC BOOK PREVIEW - DR. STRANGE

As those who read this blog know I have long since given up reading or even caring about Marvel Comics on any level. That being said there are some things that will always call me back because I'm just a sucker for certain Marvel characters. One of those is the Ditko/Lee created Dr. Strange. In the early eighties when I was looking to expand my comic book world beyond Batman, Green Lantern and Wolverine I stumbled upon a comic featuring a man with a huge cape, his fingers arched bizarrely and all of this light and color around him. He was battling what looked like a cosmic demon and BAM I was fucking hooked.

Since then, as with everything else, Marvel has shit all over Strange whenever they can. Their most recent bowel movement on the good Dr. was to remove him as the Sorcerer Supreme for using Black Magic to save the Avengers. Strange was replaced with--I shit you not---Dr. Voodoo who essentially looks like a eighties wrestler. Apparently this has led to Marvel giving Dr. Strange yet another mini-series (could we get a monthly, PLEASE) which I will have to pick up because I'm a sucker.

FIRST LOOK AT SHANG-CHI MASTER OF KUNG FU

For those out there who don't know Shangi-Chi was a character Marvel Comics brought into existence during the Kung Fu craze of the seventies. Though often a peripheral character Shang Chi has always been a solid creation with a rich history. Every so often Marvel breathes new life into Shang by giving him a new book or series. The folks over at NEWSORAMA have supplied me with an awesome ten page sneak preview of the upcoming Shangi Chi book.

It's so rare when I get this excited about something but when one of my favorite comic book writers/artists teams up to draw graphic novel version of my favorite books I almost can't help but fire semen out of the tip of the penis.

In 1962 writer Donald Westlake (writing under the pen name Richard Stark) wrote one of the greatest crime novels since Dashielle Hammett titled The Hunter. It was the story of Parker a hard as nails thief and criminal who is hell bent on getting revenge on those who wronged him. Westlake's ability to tell a story combined with his ear for dialog made these books absolute genius. I've only read the first two mainly because they are out of print and near impossible to find.

Darwyne Cooke, the genius behind Batman: Ego, Cat Woman, The New Spirit and the life altering JLA: The New Frontier is perfect to bring these books into the world of comics. Not only does his art work perfectly here but he has the reverence and love of the books that shows me he won't fuck it up. Just dig this art:

BLACKEST NIGHT PREVIEW (THE LANTERNS LINE UP_

Below is shot from a page in Green Lantern #43 which really kicks off the Black Lantern series. Now from having re-read everything Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps starting with Sinestro Corp Wars and the rumors I hear swilling about I'm thinking at some point Hal Jordan will put on all the rings Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Iindigo and Violet and become the White Lantern. From there I believe he'll defeat the Black Lanterns and also (in a heavy angel-religious theme) lead the dead into a place of resting. Here's the panel;





There are a lot of names on this and we already know that Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and the original Black Panther will be in the brood. If you look to the right you'll see the name Bruce Wayne listed which brings up the ongoing debate. Some say Bruce will return as a Black Lantern and at the end won't be defeated as much as vanish leading to more of Red Robin trying to find him. Other say DC won't bring Bruce back that quickly after all the ground work put out for Batman Reborn.

I have my own theory but I want to wait a bit to unveil it.

If the recent Batman & Robin title by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely is any clue then the whole new era of Batman is going to kick a lot of ass. One of the new titles being offered up by DC is Batman: Streets Of Gotham. I think this is to help give fans more Dick Grayson action because Detective Comics will be largely devoted to Batwoman at least for the foreseeable future. DC has been kind enough to give us a preview of Batman: Streets Of Gotham #1. So check it out.

For those of you who aren't reading Skaar: Son Of Hulk (you're missing out) here is a little preview that might wet your appetite for buying some back issues. CAPTAIN AMERICA #600 & COREY WALKER BACK ON INVINCIBLE

Sometimes it's better to read comic books than ever even deal with Hollywood. This is one such time as both Marvel and DC really start pumping up their summer runs. The first of two of those exciting runs will start with Captain American #600. So far the writing on Captain America has been bulletproof thanks to Ed Brubaker. With Bucky Barnes starting to cement himself in the role of the new Captain America this sudden return to the original numbering of the comics (which just published reboot issue #50) makes you wonder what's in store across the board for CA.

AWESOME PREVIEW OF WOLVERINE #72: OLD MAN LOGAN

Old Man Logan has been one of the best stories in the Wolverine universe except for the fact that scribe Mark Millar has taken so fucking long to get it out. This last issue has dragged out for such an eternity that Marvel comics actually put out issue #73 (which picks up in the actual Wolverine storyline) before the issue #72 finale of Old Man Logan. This month the Old Man Logan story is finished and here is an awesome preview of it

HOLY SHIT, ARCHIE IS GETTING MARRIED!!

After 70 years of going back and forth between Betty and Veronica apparently Archie is finally going to propose to one of them in an upcoming issue. The Archie Comics folks are being super tight lipped as to when the issue will come out but it is a reality. I hate this idea, not because he chooses one but because they're growing Archie up. Archie is supposed to be a prepetual teenager. that's what makes him Archie. Having him grow up is a bad idea, it just doesn't work in the world they've created. Think I'm wrong about a grown up Archie sucking. Watch this, this is supposed to be Jughead as an adult:



The only bright spot is that artist Stan Goldberg will illustrate the tale. Mr. Goldberg was kind enough to send me this long ago.

MARVEL'S "WOLVERINE APPRECIATION" VARIANT COVERS

So in order to try and hawk the new Wolverine movie (which sucks) the folks at Marvel have been releasing variant covers of their books that have to do with Wolverine. It's being called Wolverine Appreciation which is lame as all hell but some of the art work is really cool. As a courtesy I've compiled the covers for you to check out and list if you want.
