HOLY BATSHIT--DC Does Something Else Stupid

Yeah you're not going blind, nor has anybody put acid in your toothpaste, this has been making the rounds as the cover for Brightest Day #13, which would make perfect sense. Why would it make perfect sense, well let me tell you. The first part is that DC has fucked up not only the death of Bruce Wayne but also his Return. Mostly they've done this by handing it to hack "writer" and Alan Moore wanna-be Grant Morrison.

On top of all that Brightest Day so far has been so fucking ho-hum that I use it as opposed to jerking off in order to feel relaxed before a nice hot shower. So since DC has basically not just screwed the pooch but got her pregnant, beat her and made her pay for the abortion, why not fuck it with returning Bruce Wayne as the White Lantern. The Dark Knight as the White Lantern, holy raping get down fuckabout DC are some deep bitches.

I hate everything

SDCC I WASN'T THERE WRAP UP #6: FUCK THE RED HULK

I can't think of a bigger Marvel misstep than the Red Hulk. Seriously, what a hunk of red shit we've had to content with for two FUCKING years. I should have known this would happen with Jeph "I Royally Fucked Wolverine" Loeb at the helm but I kept hope alive and ended up with a huge throbbing red veined Hulk cock in my ass for issue after issue. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse it did with War Of The Hulks, one of the most convoluted and horribly written series ever. Now comes the news that the Red Hulk will join the Avengers.

Well fucking shit pants golly golly gee ain't that good news. So far the new Avengers (that's new as in the new launch not new as in the New Avengers) has been hard pressed to find it's footing and somehow I don't see adding the big red garbage heap as a way to solve that problem. Oh and apparently the Red Hulk is really Thunderbolt Ross though I have no idea how that works since I stopped reading the thing in order to not blow up Loeb's house.

The only good news in all of this is that Jeph Loeb is finally stepping down as the writer of the Red Hulk. I don't know who is replacing him and to be honest I don't give two good goddamns about it. First off I know any kid with a crayon and a 3rd grade imagination can write a better story than Loeb has but I doubt that even if Alan Moore stepped in he could undo the damage heaped on us by this abomination.

SDCC I WASN'T THERE WRAP UP #7: CHLOE IN ACTION/SUPERMAN IN SMALLVILE

For the longest time Smallville has sucked a thousand cocks laced with cyanide. Ever since the big "Doomsday" is coming let down where the creature that killed Superman turned out to be a hot, troubled ambulance driver that turned into a the Toxic Avenger mixed with a porcupine it's been downhill. The only thing worth a damn on that show was the character of Chloe Sullivan played by the nerd-boy-perfect-girlfriend Allison Mack. Then it was announced Allison would be jumping from the Smallville ship because, well probably because she knew the show sucked donkey nuts at this point. When that came out all of us who loved Alison and Chloe were super bummed.

Fear not!! As it turns out Chloe will be making her comic book appearance in Action Comics #838 and that kicks ass. Hopefully she'll be a permanent part of the DC Universe but even a brief encounter with the character is better than nothing. Here's the cover of Action Comics #893.

With Chloe gone and Smallville circling the drain the producers have pulled out all the stops for the tenth and final season by actually putting Superman in the show about Superman. Apparently a trailer for season ten showed not just the costume but also Clark finally being referred to as Superman. This definitely probably won't save the show but it will drag my stupid ass back for season 10.

Ladies And Gentlemen You're WALKING DEAD.....

So after a slew of various zombie shots and a few of Sheriff Rick finally we get to see the complete cast of the upcoming Walking Dead TV show. I must say I'm fucking killer amped for this not only because Frank Darabont is doing it but also because it's on AMC which currently houses my favorite TV show Breaking Bad. For those curious how it all breaks down here's a cool thing showing the photos of the actors by the comic character they'll portray. It looks pretty fucking spot on.

HARVEY PEKAR RIP

It's not often that I'm speechless, even less often that I care enough to get choked up but today's passing of writer and underground comic legend Harvey Pekar is just devastating to me. There's no word yet on what the brilliant man passed from but his battles with Cancer were wildly known. I can only hope that he went peacefully, the world is a little darker and a lot less interesting with him gone.

For me personally Perkar was everything I ever wanted to be, one of my true heroes. When I was about 24 or 25 I began to seriously get into R. Crumb and from there I found Harvey. His wit, his style, his entire way of approaching comics was so wonderful, so unabashedly different that it spoke to me instantly. He had no pretensions and even though he worked with pretentious artists the power of his writing held them at bay. I'm a big believer in honesty and few were as honest as Pekar.

I loved the movie American Splendor but it didn't come close to capturing what the comic book truly was. Pekar was the punk rock of comics, he proved you didn't have to know how to draw or even be trained to author comics to write touching, brutally honest and amazing work. I started my small comic press Isolation Disorder Press because of him and not since Johnny Cash have I been so saddened by the loss of a man I didn't know.

RIP Harvey Pekar, you will be missed.

KIRBY IS COMING!!

I have no idea what this actually means but Dynamite Comics posted this ad saying Alex Ross was doing something cool and bringing a friend with him. I can only guess (or pray) that Ross is art director behind some amazing undiscovered Kirby thing or a re-release of something long forgotten. Whatever it is I'll buy it because it's fucking Jack Kirby and he is the ONE.

RIP AL WILLIAMSON

Man sometimes it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. Al Williamson, one of the greatest artists and inkers in the history of comic passed away at 79. It's impossible to tell how far Williamson's reach has been, he's influenced two generations of comic book artists as well as leaving a pantheon of work that will not easily be duplicated. From his X-9 series to his work on Flash Gordon, Star Wars and his amazing inks for Spider-Man, Hulk and Daredevil. Nobody comes close to Al Williamson.

For me being a huge fan of the Golden Age of comics artists like Williamson define that entire era. His early work for the EC Comics titles like Weird Science and Weird Fantasy took what had already been laid out to an entirely new arena. It was there Williamson earned his stripes to later go on doing breakthrough work for Eerie and Creepy before landing on Secret Agent X-9. From there Williamson created amazing work for Star Wars comics before focusing on inking for Marvel.

Williamson received Will Eisner awards for inking in 1996 and 1997 as well being inducted into the Eisner Hall Of Fame in 2000. That in itself is no small feat and shows just how well respected and loved the man was. Williamson helped me understand just how important inking was for the world of comic books and helped raise the art from from a second tier occupation to something just as important as the pencils themselves.

I also loved how Al Williamson could flow from style to style. His rougher work in the early books through his more refined Star Wars stuff you could tell there was an artist at work, a man who loved comic books and all they meant to people. His life was as inspiration and his death a tragedy. More so than my rambling I'll let his work speak for itself.

SHADOWLAND Is Giving Me A Nerd Boner!!

It's not often that I get amped about an event series, especially since the end of Blackest Night. However the upcoming Shadowland series coming from Marvel has me excited mainly because it looks to be developing into something that might actually change the Marvel Universe. The way things are unfolding it looks like Daredevil might be letting his new leadership of The Hand get to him in a big, big way. Check out how the art work leads to some pretty cool shit.

See how fucked up things seem to go. I'm hoping that Daredevil loses his shit and becomes a villain at least for the foreseeable future. It would work because Daredevil's mental state has been breaking down for awhile and this whole Hand arc has pushed him to do things he's never done before. Granted Marvel could blow the whole thing but for now let's hope it turns out to be as kick ass at it seems.

So JUGHEAD Isn't The Only Gay Character In Riverdale Now.

Oh come on, let's not mince words, we all thought at one point or another that Jughead was gay. Never had a chick, never wanted a chick, always was able to rock that cool "Crown" without looking stupid. Hey I was a big fan of Archie and I kept waiting for Jughead to come out of the closet. Apparently the folks at Archie got the message because as of Veronica issue #202 (coming September 1st) Riverdale has a fully out gay student named Kevin. Here's the first look of this stud in full color:

The story, titled "Isn't It Bromantic" shows Veronica trying to win the affections of Kevin without realizing he's gay, something Jughead finds hysterical. The folks at Archie claim they're introducing Kevin as a gay character that everybody is fine with except they're doing it in a story where Kevin's homosexuality almost seems like a weapon for Jughead. Here are some of the pages from the story, you tell me.

I'm curious if once Kevin's gayness comes out that the kids will think Jughead is gay to because he spent so much time with Kevin. I don't know, curious to see if Archie Comics handles this as well as they claim they want to.

What If They Gave Avengers...And Nobody Cared?

The Secret Avengers were finally revealed this week and...well...to be honest, who cares? The reason I say this is that the new team Beast, Nova, Valkyrie, Moon Knight, War Machine, and Steve Rogers could be the most lackluster superhero team since The Champions (remember them? Marvel team with Hercules, Ghost Rider, Iceman, Black Widow and Angel).

I mean seriously, Beast? Nobody even cared about him as an X-Men, especially in recent years. Nova? Yeah, talk about your second stringers. Valkyrie? Who? Moon Knight is cool but how many times has Marvel fucked that story up. War Machine I like and I dig Steve Rogers but I'm bummed he's not part of the new relaunch title (they're sticking with Bucky). Collectively The Secret Avengers just lays there, nothing sparks when you see them, even when it's leaping into action. Here, check the cover.

Anyway, maybe it'll Kick Ass, but I just don't see it. Oh and just for shits and giggles here's The Champions Issue #1

Your Favorite Comics Get Funnier With Asshole

I don't know who thought this was a good idea but holy shit was it. I never thought adding the phrase "What an asshole" would really make me laugh but these comics did. It might just be because I'm an asshole. Either way dig it.
